Abstract. The article is an analytical attempt to explain the new tendencies in Bulgarian literature. In the last decade the book market shows a constant trend of searching and selling lifestyle novels, which are very popular among reading public including students. One of the biggest part of this kind of writing comprises so called literature about women written by women or chick lit. The focus of the article is put on analysing two very popular and easy to see leanings in those texts – one that tries to reflect some features, values and norms typical for Bulgarian traditional culture (illustrated by novel Thread), and the second – that manifests the trends of new, third-wave feminism (demonstrated in the novel Yoga, Love and Other Myths). Among the key questions in the article is how this kind of writing to be analysed and explain in the context of university teaching of literature and why it is necessary to be done.
