Abstract. The article presents some preliminary data of a study, aimed at opinions and evaluations of professionals in preschool and school education system about the procedures, mechanisms and criteria for selection of principals, implemented with Ordinance 16 from 2024. The study is part of a project which aims at developing a wholesome model for selection and continuous development of management personnel in educational system. The preliminary data shows that as a whole, professionals in the system consider the new procedure, methods and criteria as a positive change. There are some differences in opinions regarding the participation of representatives of Community Councils in selection committees, as well as the ability of different evaluation methods to provide objective information about managerial competencies of the candidates.
