Abstract. Numerous examples of the modern names of settlements, mountains, peaks and rivers in Bulgaria are presented, which continue to bear foreign-language names from past periods of Bulgaria's history, as well as those related to the declared criminal communist regime in the country (1944-1989). Reasoned proposals have been made to replace some of these names with Bulgarian ones.
