Elena Lavrentsova

Trakia University – Stara Zagora (Bulgaria)

https://doi.org/10.53656/ped2025-4s.02

Abstract. The article examines the influence of digital technologies on the living conditions of people, the way of collective behaviour, the forms of social and educational relations. The focus of attention is placed on multiple manifestations of digital transformation, affecting the deep foundations of the institutional nature of society, its intra-institutional and inter-institutional mechanisms, and determining the accelerating speed of socio-cultural changes. Digitalization is understood as a dominant trend in the development of the social system at the modern stage, which not only characterizes its dynamics, but also leads to the emergence of a new mode of human historical existence – a digital society. Additionally, the ambiguity of the emerging changes is analyzed, highlighting both the positive aspects associated with the progressive transformation of social practice and the entire systemic set of economic, educational and other social relations, as well as the negative features reflecting the destructive influence of digitalization on the social reality. By applying structural-genetic analysis, accompanied by the procedures of analogy, generalization and synthesis, a detailed inventory of the leading conceptual ideas has been carried out, which allows for the disclosure of the contradictory vectors of the functioning and development of digital technologies with an emphasis on developing clear ethical guidelines for their use.

https://doi.org/10.53656/ped2025-4s.04

Abstract. During the period of pre-school and Primary school education, 3 – 11-year-old children acquire basic mathematical knowledge. The problem of activating and stimulating students` cognitive interest, their inclusion in productive practical activities, and development in the direction of unity of their concrete-figurative and abstract-logical thinking are essential for the educational process. One aspect of its resolution is the application of the modeling method in the methodology work in mathematics. This is why the development of professional competences and competencies related to its adequate use in teaching mathematical content is so important for future kindergarten and primary teachers. The research was longitudinal, and throughout its implementation, it was the functional-technological model for theoretical and practical student training. The article presents some theoretical concepts on which the lecture course was built. The results of the empirical study proved that students develop conceptual knowledge and skills regarding the Modelling method which facilitates the effective methodology work for understandably teaching the mathematical terminology.

The Transcontinental Transfer of Froebelian Pedagogy – the American Context

Violeta Georgieva-Hristozova

Trakia University - Stara Zagora (Bulgaria)

https://doi.org/10.53656/ped2025-4s.06

Abstract. This study aims to reveal the contribution of Friedrich Froebel’s disciples to the development of early childhood education in the United States during the 19th-20th centuries, focusing on figures insufficiently studied in Bulgarian academic literature. The paper explores a previously unexamined process – how Froebel’s methodology traveled from Germany to the USA and found fertile ground for development beyond its original conception. The analysis of this transcontinental exchange demonstrates how pedagogical ideas can maintain their core while enriching a new educational environment. Through theoretical analysis, the research examines the biographies and pedagogical legacy of five significant figures – Maria Kraus-Boelte, Elizabeth Palmer Peabody, Susan Blow, Kate Douglas Wiggin, and Patty Smith Hill. The main findings reveal innovative adaptations of Froebel’s methodology in the American context; establishment of the first institutional forms of early childhood education in the USA; development of professional preparation for kindergarten teachers; formation of theoretical foundations for children’s rights; and integration of scientific research into pedagogical practice. The study draws implementations for contemporary early childhood education theory, emphasizing that the development of the field cannot be based solely on innovations but must draw inspiration from its pedagogical treasury and long-standing memory.

Abstract. Programming pedagogy deals with methods and principles of teaching and learning computer programming. Teaching nested loops in introductory programming courses (IPCs) is a complex task because it represents the first exposure of beginners to programming logic.  To increase significantly students’ comprehension of loops, we introduce a pedagogical method of teaching nested loops. The research was designed as experimental study with posttest experimental and control groups model involving university students. While the experimental group was subjected to the pedagogical method, the traditional method was applied in the control group. To collect the research data, achievement posttest and a questionnaire were developed and applied. The research findings showed clearly the effectiveness of teaching loops by using the pedagogical method. Its advantage over the traditional method was especially reflected at teaching multiple nested loops because their explanation by using the pedagogical method significantly increased the level of logical understanding of this operation which is difficult to comprehend by beginners in programming.
