Abstract.<\/strong> This paper attempts to put forward some problems of foreign language teaching in relation to cross-cultural communication. The introduction of cross-cultural issues in foreign language teaching is a logical consequence of the integrative tendencies which are getting more and more popular. The new circumstances require a different attitude towards the learners They should be viewed as subjects of their own culture on the one hand, and as representatives of the foreign culture through the language studied, on the other hand. The problem is discussed in terms of its cognitive, emotional and pragmatic dimensions. The acquisition of proper language communication is placed within the context of crosscultural education.<\/p>\n

\u0410bstract.<\/strong> The article analyses the adverb in the \ufb01rst Bulgarian dictionary \u2013 \u201eSlovary bolagrskogo yazika\u2026\u201c (1885 \u2013 1889) by the russian scientist Alexander Duvernois. For this purpose are used descriptive, comparative-historical and statistical methods. Article, focused on the adverb, is presented \u2013 key word, grammatical quali\ufb01er (notes), explanatory part and illustrations. Adverbs in the dictionary are classi\ufb01ed according to their construction (simple, \u0441ompound, derivational) and origin (from adjectives, nouns, verbs, numerals). Different types of pronominal adverbs (interrogative, relative, inde\ufb01nite, negative, summary and demonstrative) are reviewed.<\/p>\n

CONCEPTS OF PRAGUE FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURALISM IN THE WORKS OF PROF. A. V. BONDARKO AND PROF. I. KUTSAROV<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstact:<\/strong> One of the leading methodological linguistic trends of the past 20th century is undisputedly linguistic structuralism. The Prague school, also known as the Prague linguistic circle, is one of the \ufb01rst structuralist linguistic schools, being properly de\ufb01ned as functionalist in its essence. Representatives of the Prague school from its classic period (1926 \u2013 1945) and their disciples in the late 20th century give their invaluable contribution to worldwide development of linguistics. The text examines those key concepts of Prague functional structuralism that substantially contributed to the formation and development of functional grammar as we know it in the works of A. V. Bondarko and I. Kutsarov. First, it is R. Jakobson\u2019s concept of binarism, also known as the theory of markedness, that plays a key role in the development of modern linguistics, underlying the morphological concepts of A. V. Bondarko and I. Kutsarov that represent the relations between grammemes of morphological categories through morphological oppositions. Second, the Prague structuralists developed the functional approach to linguistic phenomena and the theory of centre and periphery in language. Both are uniquely elaborated in Bondarko\u2019s functional theory of semantic \ufb01elds underlying his theory of functional grammar. The latter was not only promoted but also successfully implemented by I. Kutsarov in Bulgaria. And last but not least, much like the Prague linguistic circle, A. V. Bondarko, I. Kutsarov and their disciples evaluate the theoretical signi\ufb01cance of synchronic and contrastive studies. Functional grammar, which is to meet many more scienti\ufb01c challenges in the future, undisputedly applies to the study of a particular language as well as to contrastive studies.<\/p>\n

ON THE QUESTION OF THE TYPOLOGY OF FUNCTIONAL SEMANTIC FIELDS IN THE CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN LANGUAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The research paper focuses on the question of the typology of functional semantic \ufb01elds in the contemporary Bulgarian language. In the analysis comments have been made on A. V. Bondarko and I. Kutsarov\u2019s popular classi\ufb01cation models of FSF in the Russian and Bulgarian languages, emphasizing on some problematic parts in the points of view of the two authors. The new classi\ufb01cation of FSF presented in the exposition is based on several main criteria: 1) a sphere of functioning; 2) presence\/ absence of a structural centre (nucleus); 3) structure of the \ufb01eld periphery; 4) a degree of the functional autonomy; 5) semantic scope. There are arguments in favour of the belief that FSF build micro\ufb01elds not only around the marked members of the nucleus \u2013 the morphological category, but also around the unmarked members (having both general and main meaning).<\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The article discusses two of the terms that are in the basis of A. V. Bondarko\u2019s functional grammar theory. Additionally, a presentation is made of the properties of categorical meanings in the language system and of non-categorical meanings in speech, and the publication traces the evolution of A. V. Bondarko\u2019s ideas about the essence of these grammatical abstractions.<\/p>\n

THE FUNCTIONAL SEMANTIC-STYLISTIC CATEGORIES AXIOLOGY AND EVALUATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The article examines the concept of the functional semantic-stylistic category (FSSC) the introduction of which is the result of the development of functional direction in linguistics, particularly functional grammar and Bondarko\u2019s theory of functional-semantic categories and \ufb01elds. The interest through FSSC axiology and evaluation was prompted by the awareness of language as a space in which the structures of knowledge, opinions, beliefs and imagination are associated with evaluation. The place and role of lexical-stylistic means are outlined in the \ufb01eld of evaluation and axiology.<\/p>\n

FUNCTIONAL GRAMMAR OF M. HALLIDAY FOR IDENTIFYING THE ELEMENTS IN TOPIC POSITION IN BULGARIAN SENTENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstract.<\/strong> The text uses the Functional Grammar of M. A. K. Halliday (Halliday, 1985; Halliday & Mathiessen, 2004) and the de\ufb01nition of Halliday as the topic being this that the speaker decides to make a starting point of his message. Using this de\ufb01nition in a corpus, comprising of only \ufb01rst paragraphs of contemporary Bulgarian \ufb01ction, we make conclusions about which sentence parts are most commonly used as a topic. A hierarchy of the most common sentence parts, which function as topic, is de\ufb01ned. The conclusions show that the referentiality and the syntactic features of the sentence elements are the reasons for an element to function as a topic.<\/p>\n
